Our Fotona LightWalker AS unit is really two lasers in one: one for working on hard tissues like teeth (Er:YAG) and another for working on soft tissues like gums (Nd:YAG). This versatility is what lets us use the laser for so many different types of treatments.
It’s extremely fast, precise, and safe – which translates to better results, less time in the dental chair, and greater overall comfort for you. For unlike traditional dental instruments, lasers also seal off blood vessels and nerve endings, preventing bleeding in the mouth and greatly reducing post-op pain and swelling.
Read on to learn more about some of the most important procedures our Fotona laser now lets us offer you.
Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy
Fotona’s TwinLight® Periodontal Treatment™ is minimally invasive, creating optimal conditions for healing from mild to moderate gum disease.
Quickly and gently, the laser disinfects and clears diseased tissues from around each tooth and within the “pockets” where harmful bacteria could otherwise thrive so the diseased gum tissue can heal. Pocket depth can be significantly reduced, too.
Best of all, you barely feel a thing, and your recovery time is much quicker.
Biologic Root Canal Therapy
While root canals can be problematic, they’re sometimes the “least worst” option for dealing with deeply decayed or damaged teeth. The key is to disinfect the inside of the tooth as thoroughly as possible – including all side canals and within the dentin – to prevent infection from returning to the tooth.
Medical grade ozone is extremely helpful in this regard, but even better is ozone coupled with a laser technique known as SWEEPS. “SWEEPS” stands for “Shock Wave Enhanced Emission Photoacoustic Streaming,” and it involves using the laser to create strong, deeply penetrating shockwaves within the tooth that enhance disinfection – all while you remain comfortably relaxed in the chair, pain-free.
Ozone plus SWEEPS means a quicker, more effective treatment, with a lower risk of recurrent infection.
TMJ Pain Therapy
This is thanks to a process called photobiostimulation, which uses non-ionizing coherent light to penetrate the tight tissues and increase blood flow to the painful area. Light from the Nd:YAG laser on our LightWalker is absorbed into the cell membranes and mitochondria in the targeted area, increasing molecular kinetic energy.
This means reduced inflammation and pain for you – all without drugs or surgery.
Snoring & Sleep Apnea Solutions
If you have a problem with snoring or have been diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea, oral appliance therapy can be a godsend. So can another treatment we can offer with our advanced laser technology: Nightlase.®
Nightlase is a minimally invasive procedure in which we use the laser to recontour the tissue around the top of your windpipe. This stimulates your body’s own ability to restructure collagen in the area, resulting in a wider, less restricted airway.
Typically, three short visits over a 6-week period is all it takes, with results lasting up to a year or more. Research has shown that Nightlase can reduce snoring by nearly 75% – letting you get a better night’s sleep at last.
There are a few places where age can really show – through features like stained or darkened teeth and lines around the lips. And just as we can help you improve your appearance through professional teeth whitening, we can also use our laser to reduce the age lines around your mouth while giving your lips a fuller, more youthful appearance.
LipLase® takes advantage of the LightWalker’s power to stimulate your body’s own ability to generate new tissue, filling and smoothing out what stress and time may have done to your appearance. This can be an especially nice complement to smile brightening, giving you a far more youthful appearance – and all without surgery, sutures, or fillers.
